Activate Treasure Valley Partners to Weigh In On Obesity

PacificSource Health Plans and Activate Treasure Valley to Present a Three Part Series of HBO’s Weight of the Nation followed by a panel of local healthcare experts

BOISE, Idaho (Jan. 09, 2013) — Activate Treasure Valley and PacificSource Health Plans, in conjunction with community partners Saint Alphonsus, St. Luke’s and Healthwise, will present three community screenings of the HBO documentary series Weight of the Nation.

Each screening will be immediately followed by a panel discussion with local experts in the fields of education, public policy, wellness, and healthcare. The panels, moderated by Mike Jung, president and publisher of the Idaho Statesman, will discuss topics covered in the film and address questions presented by members of the audience.

The films and panels will include discussion revolving around physical activity, health decisions and consequences, agriculture, and food marketing. The panelists will also address how Idahoans can take steps towards making their communities healthier by identifying the challenges we’re facing and programs available to the public that can provide needed resources to combat these problems.

“It’s a step in the right direction to begin the conversation about where we are and where we are headed,” said Dave Self, PacificSource Health Plans senior vice president and regional director of Idaho. “Ultimately, our goal is to encourage people — parents, educators, business professionals and elected officials — to initiate change within their own circles. PacificSource is proud to partner with Activate Treasure Valley to take that first step.”

Screenings are free to the community and will include a healthy snack. Challenges, sponsored by Saint Alphonsus, will be shown in the McCleary Auditorium on January 17. Consequences, sponsored by St. Luke’s, will be shown in the Anderson Center on the fifth floor of the St. Luke’s downtown on February 6. Choices, sponsored by Healthwise, will be shown in their building on March 6. All screenings and subsequent panel discussions take place from 6 to 8 pm.
