PacificSource Health Plans' Community Health Blog Wins Gold at 31st Annual Healthcare Advertising Awards awarded for its efforts to engage communities in two-way dialogue about how to affect real change in health and healthcare

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.)—In recognition of the quality, creativity and message effectiveness of its blog, PacificSource Health Plans has been awarded Gold by the 31st Annual Healthcare Advertising Awards, the nation’s oldest, largest, and most respected healthcare advertising awards.

PacificSource was the only gold medal winner in Oregon, one of 297 gold-medal winning entries nationwide, and one of only eight entries to reach the gold standard in the competition’s New Media category, which included podcasts, e-blasts, flash media, and blog sites. Nearly 4,000 entries were submitted to this year’s Healthcare Advertising Awards, making it the largest healthcare advertising competition in the country. PacificSource was also recognized with a Merit Award for Social Media.

Launched in 2012, PacificSource’s is a community resource for healthy living tips, a sounding board for ideas, and a virtual suggestion box for how to affect real change in health and healthcare.

“By asking for the community’s help in generating one million individual ideas of how to change healthcare for the better, we’re on our way to making one big impact on the health of our communities,” said Kathy Jost, Communications Manager for PacificSource Health Plans. “We started this blog with a lofty goal of capturing one million ideas that will move the health of our communities forward, and in under two years we are proud to have already shared 235 ideas.”

As with all of PacificSource’s community outreach initiatives, the aim of the blog is to engage individuals in a two-way conversation about health that allows the organization to talk with them, not at them.

In addition to regular posts on a variety of topics related to healthy living, one of the core functions is to serve as a platform for individuals to share their stories while also learning from others. To that end, the blog was built on the following principles:

  • It’s going to take more than one idea to improve health care. That’s why we started the One Million Ideas blog. We believe that lots of little changes can add up to one big change in the health of our communities.
  • To make it happen, it’s going to take all of us. It means being proactive with your health: eating better, getting active, finding ways to alleviate stress, kicking tobacco, and most importantly, staying informed on what you can do to live better.
  • We want you to tell us what works, what doesn’t work, and the challenges you face every day. We’re seeking solutions to improve the health of ourselves, our families, and our communities. We need your insights, your experiences, your ideas.
