PacificSource Welcomes 8,500 Members from New West as Bulk Reinsurance Transfer Deal Closes

Helena, MT – February 29, 2012 – PacificSource Health Plans welcomed approximately 8,500 new members on February 29. The membership growth is the result of a bulk reinsurance transfer arrangement between PacificSource and New West Health Services. New West is exiting the commercial market to focus on its Medicare business.

“We’re excited to welcome these new members to PacificSource,” said Ken Provencher, President and Chief Executive Officer of PacificSource. “Our top priority is to make sure the transition is smooth, and members continue to receive the care and service they need without disruption.”

PacificSource Health Plans already serves 1,500 members in Montana, and more than 275,000 members throughout Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. They offer affordable, high quality individual plans, and are preparing to launch new large and small employer plans in the market.

“It is important to us to provide Montanans with high quality, affordable options for their health insurance,” said Ken Provencher. “We look forward to partnering with local providers and employers in the region, through our community health plan approach, to find innovative ways to make a difference in the communities we serve.”

Through collaboration with regional healthcare providers, PacificSource supports the implementation of new healthcare delivery models aimed at improving the health of populations, creating an exceptional patient experience and reducing the overall cost of care.
