As Idaho Prepares for Health Insurance Exchanges, Pacificsource Health Plans Becomes First Health Insurer to Release Rates

Belief in Transparency, Preparedness for Affordable Care Act, and Commitment to Consumers Among Reasons For Release of Rates

(BOISE, Idaho)—PacificSource Health Plans became the first health insurance provider in Idaho to disclose its 2014 individual and small group health insurance rates, in advance of implementation of the Affordable Care Act commonly known as Obamacare. As the first of the five insurers offering coverage in the new Idaho exchange marketplace (Your Health Idaho) to release rates, PacificSource cited transparency, preparedness, and commitment to acting in the best interests of consumers as the primary reasons behind their decision.

“Transparency in everything we do is a core value of our company, and one of the reasons why PacificSource has operated successfully as a not-for-profit health insurer for more than 80 years,” said Dave Self, Senior Vice President and Idaho Regional Director for PacificSource Health Plans. “Now that we have made our rates public we can begin the discussions with our members, providers, and all Idahoans about PacificSource’s unique insurance and wellness offerings, and how we are prepared to help them take control of their health.”

PacificSource expects its innovative product designs and award-winning customer service, which helped the company rank “Highest in Member Satisfaction Among Commercial Health Plans in the Northwest” by J.D. Power and Associates for 2013, to promote continued growth throughout Idaho.

PacificSource’s new plans for individual and small employers are a further reflection of the company’s collaborative partnerships with healthcare providers. These partnerships support access to primary care physicians and a full array of physician, hospital, dental and other healthcare services. PacificSource plan designs will be available both in and outside the Your Health Idaho exchange marketplace, and are designed so Idahoans can still choose to work with appointed and approved insurance brokers.

“Cost comparisons aside, consumers’ interactions with insurance companies are typically limited to questions about policy coverage, reimbursements, and payments,” said Self. “With our healthcare provider partnerships, award-winning customer service, and commitment to helping consumers and communities, PacificSource is changing that and our Healthy Life initiatives are examples of the programs we use to create healthful and meaningful interactions with Idahoans.”
