Pacificsource Health Plans Achieves Industry’s Gold Standard for Quality from National Committee For Quality Assurance

Three-year accreditation by nation’s most comprehensive evaluator of health plans reflects PacificSource’s commitment to quality and customer service

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.)—PacificSource Health Plans has earned the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Health Plan Accreditation, widely recognized as the industry’s gold standard for measuring quality and accountability among health plans.

NCQA Accreditation is the most comprehensive evaluation of health plans, and is the only assessment program whose accreditation scores are based on a plan’s policies and procedures, as well as on a set of clinical measures and consumer experience measures. The three-year accreditation was awarded to PacificSource for both its commercial and Exchange product lines offered in Oregon, Idaho, and Montana.

“Quality and accountability are two outstanding measurements of any health plan, and NCQA accreditation is a benchmark that PacificSource is proud to have achieved,” said Ken Provencher, president and CEO of PacificSource Health Plans. “The NCQA’s assessment of our efforts and accomplishments in both areas only reaffirms what we as an organization strive to achieve on a daily basis on behalf of our members.”

NCQA Accreditation measure five areas of performance, including:

  • Staying healthy: Health plan activities that help people maintain good health and avoid illness, such as offering members appropriate preventive tests and screenings
  • Getting better: Health plan activities that help people recover from illness, such as ensuring members have access to the most up-to-date medical procedures, drugs and devices
  • Living with illness: Health plan activities that help people manage chronic illness
  • Access and service: Health plan members have access to needed care and good customer service, such as enough primary doctors and specialists to serve all plan members and plan follow-up on grievances
  • Qualified providers: Health plan efforts to ensure that each doctor is licensed and trained to practice medicine, and that members are happy with their doctors

Overall, NCQA quality measurements include more than 750 individual factors, and 1,200 requirements that involve rigorous, performance-based standards to promote continuous improvement of a plan’s quality and value.

“This recognition reflects the culture of quality that exists throughout the organization, and is a testament to our ongoing commitment to providing extraordinary products, benefits, and service in today’s market,” said Elizabeth Bainter, Director of Clinical Quality Improvement for PacificSource Health Plans. “But NCQA accreditation is by no means a cause for complacency, and we will continue to search for ways to improve quality and enhance the customer experience at every step in the process.”
