Patient's Bill of Rights

Overview

On June 22, 2010, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a “Patient’s Bill of Rights,” which outlines interim final rules for a number of requirements under the Affordable Care Act, including:

  • Pre-existing condition exclusions
  • Lifetime and annual limits
  • Prohibition on rescissions
  • Choice of primary care physicians
  • Patient access to obstetrical and gynecological care
  • Coverage of emergency services
