Dependent Eligibility Extension

Overview

Under the Affordable Care Act, dependents will be allowed to stay on their parents’ health plan to age 26. By law, this extension of dependent eligibility starts September 23, 2010 and is effective on your health insurance policy’s first renewal on or after that date. On May 10, 2010, interim final rules were published, which clarify the dependent eligibility requirements and create a special enrollment opportunity for children under the age of 26.
