Elect Value Option Plans a Good Fit for those Losing FHIAP Subsidy

Now that many Oregon adults will lose their Family Health Insurance Assistance Program (FHIAP) subsidy on May 31, 2008, other coverage options are more important than ever. As you know, we offer a wide variety of individual and family plans to meet all needs and budgets. Our Elect Value Option plans offer your FHIAP clients peace of mind, providing basic coverage with rates starting as low as $17 per month.

Elect Value Option plans feature:

  • Annual deductibles of $2,500, $5,000, $7,500, or $10,000
  • $35 copayment for routine gynecological exams
  • Most in-network services covered at 60% after the deductible
  • In-network prescription drug coverage at 50% after the deductible

In addition, these plans include a number of value-added programs and services, such as online tools and provider directory, hospital-based education class reimbursement, the Expectations prenatal care program, the Free & Clear® tobacco cessation program, and Assist America® Global Emergency Services travel benefit.

Elect Value Option Plans Make a Real Difference for Clients

These plans can make a big impact in people’s lives. Recently, two members shared their story:

John is 35 and his spouse, Jennifer, is 32 (not their real names). Currently, he is a full-time student while she stays home with their two young children. Their only source of income is student loans, so monthly premium cost is a real concern. They used to have an Oregon FHIAP subsidy, but it has ended. Their children are covered by the Oregon Health Plan. Both John and Jennifer are healthy, rarely go to the doctor, and don’t take any medications. The best option for them is a plan offering catastrophic coverage with a high deductible and low premium. They selected a PacificSource Elect Value Option, $10,000 deductible plan with an affordable $61 monthly premium. Now, Jennifer is able to visit her doctor for a routine gynecological exam, something she has not been able to afford for more than four years. John and Jennifer now have peace of mind knowing they won’t lose their house in the event of a catastrophic medical expense.

For Bailey Saavedra, Helping Members is a Family Tradition

Each day, Individual Service Representative Bailey Saavedra gets calls from current and prospective members asking about PacificSource Short Term Medical (STM) and our other individual and family health plans. “I love to help members understand their health insurance” says Bailey. “It’s great when I can explain deductibles, out of pocket maximums, and copays, and hear the customer say ‘Now I get it!’”

“It feels very rewarding to help people.”

Short Term Medical

PacificSource Short Term Medical plans help bridge the coverage gap for Oregonians graduating from college, between jobs, in a temporary position, or otherwise between plans. Premiums begin at just 75 cents a day and vary depending on age and deductible. Individuals and families may choose the start date and duration (from 30 to 185 days) of their policy.

Bailey Saavedra

Soon after joining the PacificSource Claims Department in 2006, Bailey was promoted to Claims Adjudicator. In 2007, she became an Enrollment Technician in the Individual Department, and was quickly promoted to Individual Service Representative responsible for Short Term Medical. In her current position, Bailey spends much of her day processing STM applications. Often, a customer will want their policy to start the next day, so she prides herself on having a fast turn around time.

Outside of work, Bailey enjoys weekend fishing and camping trips with family and friends. On the weeknights you might find her at her neighborhood park playing basketball or walking the trails, or at home trying out a recipe. She is also a huge Ducks fan and loves watching University of Oregon football and basketball.

Helping individuals and families has always been a part of Bailey’s life, since she is a second-generation PacificSource employee. Bailey's mother has worked here for 24 years, her aunt for 15 years, and her sister for eight. “We all love working here and hope that we can keep adding generations as our other family members get older,” remarks Bailey. “It feels very rewarding to help people.”
