Short Term Medical—
Bridging the Gap Between Plans

From time to time, people find themselves without health insurance coverage. They might be graduating from college, between jobs, in a temporary position, or waiting for other coverage to begin. Starting July 1, 2007, we will offer an affordable new product specifically tailored to these individuals—PacificSource Short Term Medical insurance. Premiums start as low as $22.50 for a 30-day period (based on the applicant-only, age 0–19 rate for a $2,500-deductible daily plan policy).

Short Term Medical at a Glance:

  • Deductible Options: $500, $1,000, $2,000, or $2,500
  • Length of coverage: Members can choose to be covered from 30 to 185 days (up to six months), and start their coverage on any day of the month.
  • Payment options: The premium payment can be based on either a daily or monthly rate. Members on the daily rate choose exactly the number of days they’d like to be covered and pay up front for their coverage. Monthly rate policies allow members to pay as they go using automatic bank withdrawals.

The covered benefits include:

  • Physician office visits
  • Urgent care and emergency room
  • Durable medical equipment
  • Inpatient hospital care
  • Outpatient surgery
  • Home healthcare
  • Prescription drugs—including our prescription discount program

Enrollment is easy—there is no medical underwriting. You’ll find a downloadable application, an informative sales flier, and the premium rate sheet for both the daily and monthly Short Term Medical policies in the Our Plans/Individual & Family section of our Web site. An online application for our Elect and Short Term Medical products is coming soon.

The producer commission on our Short Term Medical products will be 15 percent. An addendum has been added to the current producer contract to this effect.

How Our New Commission Processes Affect Your Individual Business

In our June 1 Agent Bulletin, we outlined upcoming changes to our commission payment process that will tie commissions to premiums received. As a reminder, this change will affect your individual business as well. The following processes are effective with your August commission payment (for July business):

  • Commission will only be paid after we receive the premium due for individual policies.
  • Commissions will apply only to premium paid and will be prorated based on the percentage of premium received.
  • If additional premium is paid or reduced retroactively, the commission will be adjusted accordingly on the next commission check.

Soon, you’ll also notice changes to our commission statements and checks resulting from enhancements to our commission system. The upgrade will allow us to automate the commission process to reduce chances for human error, as well as to add more clarity and detail to our commission statements.

These changes will enable greater efficiency in processing routine business transactions, which will allow us to continue to provide exceptional, personal service. We appreciate your patience with these changes and invite you to contact your PacificSource Marketing Representative or their Sales Assistant if you have any questions.
