Peter Davidson Joins PacificSource Executive Team

On March 3, PacificSource welcomed Peter Davidson to its executive leadership team as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Peter replaces current CFO Steve Ord, who will retire this month.

Peter Davidson
Peter Davidson, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
For the past ten years, Peter served as the chief executive officer of Oregon Medical Group, a regional healthcare company that includes a 105-provider, multi-specialty group practice. He is a certified public accountant with extensive experience in consulting and accounting. Peter earned a B.A. in biology from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, prior to achieving his CPA certification.

Peter has been a Eugene resident for ten years. He and his wife have raised their children here and are dedicated to the community. This dedication led Peter to serve as a board member for a number of Lane County organizations, including the Lane Transit District Budget Board, the Lane Community College Foundation Board, and Lane County 100% Access Initiative Executive Committee.

When asked what drew him to PacificSource, Peter replied “The PacificSource tradition of customer service and community support is important to me. The people here have an extreme amount of enthusiasm for what they do and taking care of members. PacificSource has a great base of committed employees.”

In his new position, Peter will direct the financial planning, accounting, investment, and reporting practices for PacificSource Health Plans and its subsidiaries (Manley Services and Select Benefit Administrators, Inc.). He will also provide executive oversight for the organization’s legal and compliance, human resources, and planning and business development activities.

Oregon FHIAP Discontinues Some Subsidies for Adults on Individual Policies

Oregon's Family Health Insurance Assistance Program (FHIAP) has notified us that approximately 4,000 adults will lose their FHIAP individual health plan subsidies on May 31, 2008. FHIAP mailed notices and information to only these clients on March 31. It’s important to note that not all FHIAP individual market adults will lose their subsidy and that this discontinuation does not affect children. Children will be allowed to retain their subsidies. Currently, we have 195 individual members who receive a subsidy from FHIAP. We expect to receive a detailed list from FHIAP so we can determine exactly how many of our PacificSource members are affected by this news.

FHIAP’s “Information about FHIAP customers for carriers” document provides additional information and lists questions that clients are likely to ask.

Materials for members include:

We will treat FHIAP subsidy discontinuance as a qualifying event on group policies. Members will be able to enroll in their employer’s group plan on the first of the month following the loss of their FHIAP subsidy and coverage.

As you know, PacificSource offers a variety of individual and family health plans for Oregon residents not covered by employer-based group insurance policies. Our Elect Value Option plans provide low-cost catastrophic coverage. Our Individual Department is happy to work with your clients to help them find an affordable plan that meets their needs. For more information, please visit the Individual and Family Plans area of our Web site, contact your PacificSource Individual Sales Representative, or e-mail our Individual Department at individual@pacificsource.com.

Baby Benefits Program Expecting Changes

Effective May 1, 2008, our popular Baby Benefits prenatal care program will have a new name—Expectations—and new phone number. We hope the new name will make it clearer that new mothers should sign up for the program while they're pregnant, rather than waiting until the baby is born.

The program’s new toll-free phone line, (866) 765-4537, will also be effective on May 1. Only the name and number are changing; the program itself will not change. We will revise our Baby Benefits Web page and make updated sales and member materials available on May 1 as well.

Baby Benefits is our free prenatal program to help mothers have a safe pregnancy and a healthy baby. The program provides a maternity-specific Web site, educational resources, and prenatal care management. Pregnant women can call the toll-free number to sign up for the program and receive education materials, as well as access to a nurse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the pregnancy.

The current phone number, (800) 828-5891, will remain active for a period of time to catch calls from those who may still have the number on file. HMC, the company that administers the program, will notify current participants of these changes the week of April 20.
