Short Term Medical a Hit with Agents and Members

The response has been amazing since we began offering PacificSource Short Term Medical (STM) plans. Our Individual Department has been kept busy since July 1 as more than 500 members discovered how our STM plans give them affordable choices for basic healthcare coverage. “Agents are very excited about the product,” says Individual Sales Representative Kelly Walker. “The response to rates, product design, and delivery has all been positive.”

With premiums as low as $22.50 for a 30-day period (based on the applicant-only, age 0–19 rate for a $2,500-deductible daily plan policy) everyone can afford coverage. And many STM policy holders go on to purchase one of our Elect individual plans for themselves or a family member.

Employer clients can recommend PacificSource STM to their new employees who are not yet on the group plan, helping them get immediate basic coverage for themselves and their family. “This plan is also a great fit for recent college graduates,” says PacificSource Product Development Strategist Darci Buschelman. “They no longer have insurance through their parents, but they’re not enrolled through an employer yet.”

One reason our Short Term Medical plans are a hit is that enrollment is easy—there is no medical underwriting. You’ll find more information and an online application in the PacificSource Short Term Medical Coverage section of our Web site. For specific questions, you’re welcome to contact your Individual Sales Representative, or contact our Individual Sales Department at (541) 684-5585, or toll-free at (866) 695-8684, or by e-mail at individual@pacificsource.com.

PacificSource Honored with Community Caring Award

The Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce has honored PacificSource with its Emerald Award for Community Caring for our contributions to the Eugene/Springfield community’s vitality and quality of life. The Chamber selected PacificSource from a field of 29 nominees in this category based on our charitable foundation’s work, the involvement of our employees in charitable initiatives, and our community giving program. PacificSource President and CEO Ken Provencher accepted the award on September 25 at a ceremony attended by more than 400 local business and community leaders.

While many of our charitable and community initiatives are conducted quietly, we are honored to be recognized for this work, and we continue to be committed to enhancing the quality of life in all the communities we serve.

Assist America® Information Mails to Members

As we announced in our last Agent Bulletin, all PacificSource members with medical coverage now have access to a valuable new travel benefit. As of October 1, PacificSource health plan coverage now includes global emergency services from Assist America®—the nation's largest provider of global emergency services.

Our group plan administrators learned about the program through a mailing to administrators the week of September 24. Next week, we will mail a letter to all medical subscribers to announce the program. The letter will provide details about the service, guidelines for using this program, and an Assist America ID card used to access services. Find more information about the Assist America program in the September 24 Agent Bulletin. If you have any questions about the program or would like more information on how it can benefit your clients, please contact your PacificSource Sales Representative.

PacificSource Benefits and Programs Support Breast Cancer Prevention

Because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, now is a great time to emphasize the importance of early detection and prevention in surviving this disease. We offer a number of plan benefits and value-added services that support breast cancer awareness and prevention, including:

  • Screening mammography coverage as a preventive service on all medical policies:
    - For members age 35 or older, one per calendar year
    - For members under age 35, as recommended by a physician

  • Our new Workplace Wellness Toolkit, designed for employer groups with 50 to 100 employees, includes a breast cancer awareness communication campaign with posters, payroll stuffers, and a newsletter article. It’s a great starting point for a workplace wellness program. Our Client Service Representatives will be distributing these toolkits to plan administrators, so if you have a client you think would benefit from this item, please contact us.

  • Online information and assessment tools for members: Members can log on to the secure InTouch for Members area of our Web site to access InTouch With Your Health, an online health and wellness center powered by WebMD®. Members can use the HealthQuotient® health risk assessment tool to learn their level of risk for breast cancer, then access a wealth of highly reputable information about disease and what they can do to minimize their risk.

  • Hospital-based health education classes: Members and their covered dependents can participate in hospital-based health education classes on topics such as nutrition and cancer prevention, and receive reimbursement. Visit our Hospital-Based Health Education Classes page for more information.
